Crazy Days

I think that at least for the meanwhile we should be known as the Big Green Calamity. Now that title wouldn't seem to auger very well for us, but really I'm not so worried; it seems to be one comic mishap for us after another over the past 48 hours.

An abbreviated list would be:

  • Setting off the fire extinguisher in the back of the chase car not an hour ago. If there was a fire, we would've totally destroyed it. Things being as they are, Smokey the Bear sympathizes, but does not approve.
  • Forgetting to buy fuel filters before we left. Pillowcases work, but they're not ideal.
  • Mistaking the fuel tank temperature gauge for the engine temperature gauge and driving for 3 hours with the heat blaring and the windows completely down. On a day that it was 100 degrees. Good times, or the best of times?

More than anything, I think everyone is just completely amped to get to Bonnaroo. I would venture to say that Alice (who's asleep on the couch next to me) is the most excited. Now one would not normally equate an excited state with unconsciousness, but given that her legs are twitching a little frantically, and theres a half grin on her face, I'd say that she's probably dreaming about running the entire way there.

To continue the disjoint nature of this late night blog post, I think we need to report on the day's events. After driving overnight for more than 16 hours to get to Washington D.C., we spent a lackluster day in the heat meeting with 2 Senators and legislative aides from 10 other offices. Some meetings were good, some grand, mostly we were deliriously tired. We repaired to an event at the Mott House, only to be assailed by the Capitol Hill police on the way. Why he was wearing his grumpypants under his uniform on such a scorching day is beyond me. Despite his intimidating antics, we made it to our event, tucked away at a charity house next to the Supreme Court. Now compared to the Supreme Court, which as one might expect is supreme at making you feel small, our event seemed puny indeed, but we had a great time and thanks to Honest Tea for hooking up the beverages for  a dehydrated bunch.

Hopefully we'll get our wireless internet hooked up and won't have to rely on filching it from random spots. I neeeeeeed my interwebs.

On a plus note, we just passed 100 gallons of greased pumped in a single stop (Thanks Mike from Arlington, who is an angel indeed). We're fueled up for a long night's haul. Bonnaroo here we comeeeee!!!!!

You guys are already in trouble with the police! Awesome!

Hopefully a rough start is indicative of a smooth ride, overall - get some rest, and enjoy Bonnaroo!

In light of your strife. I thought it would be good to write a haiku:

The bus it is hot,
bannaroo the capital,
honest supreme time
