Wear a Cape to Keep A Child Alive

Debra Ann Ragbar has always loved to sew. She owns a soft home décor company called, Debra Ann Collection, where she designs and sews draperies, roman shades and accent pillows. For years she’s tried to think of ways she could be of service to help change the world and wanted to use her talents in a more meaningful way. Then one day she heard about four young, local mothers planning a Gala to benefit ‘Keep A Child Alive’. Debra Ann gladly donated accent pillows, capes and a stole for the silent auction. That is when her ‘Ah HA’ moment stuck her – “Why don’t I sew capes, redesign my website and make this an on-going fund raising initiative?”

Keep A Child Alive (KCA) is a non-profit organization in Brooklyn, New York, that runs clinics and orphanages for children whose lives are devastated by HIV/AIDS in Africa (KCA was founded by Leigh Blake and co-founded by Alicia Keys). On Debra Ann’s 53rd birthday, and as her gift to the universe, she launched a fundraising initiative called, ‘Wear A Cape to Keep A Child Alive’. She designs and sews these capes and donates $60.00 (Canadian) from each sale to go towards KCA. To help this dream come into reality, many of the necessary services were donated such as web design, web hosting, email service, and wireless Internet service. Through all of this, www.DebraAnnCollection.com is now up and running and Debra Ann is sewing capes for a great cause!

Not only are the capes from the Debra Ann Collection absolutely beautiful, but when you purchase one you’ll be helping the lives of many children in Africa. Also, for every ten capes sold on DebraAnnCollection.com she will donate a cape (value of $190.00 CND) to any fundraising group for a silent auction to benefit Keep A Child Alive.

Debra Ann’s story is the perfect example of how one person can take their talents and skills to help others. She once asked herself, ‘How may I serve?’ and found a way to take her passion and give back to others.

Thank you Debra Ann, for you are an inspiration to all.
