First, a heart condition. Next, the highest peak on every continent. Now Alison Levine is helping women conquer poverty with her non-profit Climb High Foundation. Turns out high peaks are nestled in poor countries. The climbing business wasn’t improving their base camp villages. When Alison climbed the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda, she discovered prostitution was the only job available to women. Alison saw an opportunity to improve these women’s lives: create jobs for them in the climbing world. Her organization recruits, trains and provides equipment for women to become porters, then guides, for climbers. Change Agent Levine’s first team not only made history – they’re earning money, respect, and bad-ass muscles.
