Clean water too much to ask for? An American "southern belle" shows an Indonesian community that the answer to that is NO!

After getting her Masters in Environmental Engineering at UNH, Mindy considered her options for work. She could easily have gotten a job in the consulting industry in the US, but Mindy had something greater in mind: Mindy's dream came true when she hooked up with Yayasan Emmanuel and created a new program that fills a dire need for education and technical help acquiring safe drinking water in impoverished communities in Jakarta, Indonesia .

She began the program in 2004 and has been the chief organizer, teacher, and engineer for many programs that have helped communities to solve basic problems related to environmental and health issues that otherwise might have gone ignored.

She is an inspiration to many and has exceeded even her own hopes for this project. Her efforts have touched and improved the lives of countless individuals. Not only does she have integrity and persistence but she has more kindness than just about anyone I know.

This is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to Mindy Weimer's dedication, vision and tireless effort we witnessed when we met Mindy last spring in Jakarta.

We consider ourselves exceedingly fortunate to have stumbled upon Mindy and we are so proud to sell the products craftspeople from one of her water programs makes from trash. They are made by Pak Haris and when Mindy brought us to the Tenjung Priok to meet with him, we saw first hand the dramatic impact Mindy's water program has had within these often overlooked communities.

I should mention, the very first time I met Mindy was in passing. It was early January 2006 in Jakarta and I was introduced to her as she was leaving to volunteer for a UN Program in Sumatra just after the tsunami hit.

Mindy’s dedication to improving the water quality and health conditions within local Kampungs (low income areas) is daily making life better for hundreds, into the thousands, of thankful Indonesians. As well she is a daily inspiration to hundreds of overseas Westerners living and working in Jakarta, surrounding areas of Java Island, and outreaches of Indonesia. It is simply her driving dedication to assist humanity with an aligned impeccable level of patience which enables her success. For sure, there are few Westerners who have ever been such a role-model and made such a positive difference to so many.

It is not simply her daily achievements which put her on her unnecessary pedestal. Mindy reacts to troubling situations and scenarios as a lioness protecting her cubs – example: The Feb 2007, Jakarta Flooding. Within hours of returning from traveling around the world Mindy had a task force ready to assist the devastated Northern Jakarta Kampungs. At the first available crack in the storms my SUV joined a caravan of volunteered Trucks and SUVs Mindy filled with donated foods and household products. Seeing Mindy in action simply makes everyone feel more important because she involves others in making a positive difference.

Mindy is a truly selfless leader and I feel honored to have the opportunity to comment.

Peace and love,

It takes a certain type of person to be able to harness the passion and desire to improve so many lives the way Mindy has. Her tireless efforts has had a dramatic rippling effect in the communities in which she has worked in. Her community service work will have a lasting impact on the lives of the people there, while serving as a contagious inspiration to others around her. Hats off to you Mindy!

If ever there was a born leader, Mindy Leigh is a shinning example of how one little girl can make such a huge difference in the lives of so many! She is an amazing combination of the humanitarian feelings and qualities of a Mother Teresa with the determination and intelligence of a Bill Gates.

She works tirelessly to improve the lives of the poor and orphans, but also educates and inspires students at the International School as well as volunteers in different organizations around Jakarta and the world. Not only does she give her knowledge, dedication and love to all around her but one of her bright smiles has the ability to change anyone’s day for the better.

Many grander projects with sizeable amounts of funding have attempted lesser feats but have failed or not even come close to having the sustainable impact that the YEWaterProgram has had. Mindy had the insight to make a difference at a level ignored by others because of its lower profile appearance or insurmountable situations, neither of which influenced or daunted her.

Not many people know of the physically toll this has taken on her health or the mental torment the situations she has been exposed to proposed, because that is not her way. Still today, as always, she continues without bringing attention to herself or wanting for anything. How can anyone not help but be proud of, admire, and consider yourself blessed to have this gift to the world in your life?
