About Me
Our film Mountain Top Removal about mountaintop removal coal mining in Southern Appalachia has been making the rounds on the festival circuit. On April 18 it received the Reel Current award selected and presented by Al Gore at the Nashville Film Festival. It's been great but that is not enough!
We have now moved to the first annual Mountain Aid concert on June 20 2009. The concert will raise money for the children at Marsh Fork Elementary school in the Coal River Valley in West Virginia. We hope to raise enough money to present to WV Gov Joe Manchin to build a new school that will not be threatened by a 2.8 billion gallon capacity sludge pond and a coal processing facility located within 200 yards of the school. At this time Nashville artist Kathy Mattea has agreed to perform and host the event located at the Shakori Hills Grassroots festival site here in Central NC. We need corporate sponsors, volunteers and other well know artists who are interested in supporting this issue. The film also won the first place award from Mion Solutions environmental film awards sponsored by Timberland Corporation. This award started the process please (thanks Timberland) help us finish it !
We have 501 c 3 status for the concert.
